Jack Brooks

Congressman Jack Brooks served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 42 years, making a name for himself as a southern Democrat who worked on the important legislation of his time – the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and the Voting Right Act of 1965 – while also maintaining conservative views on things like gun rights. Brooks, who won his seat representing Texas’ 2nd district in 1952, was also one of the men in President John F. Kennedy’s motorcade when he was shot in Dallas in 1963.
